The crisp and refreshing autumn weather is the perfect time for camping. Buy a tent with a picnic mat and your family can spend a whole day in the park, enjoying a pleasant, carefree and cost-effective time. Are you troubled by how to buy a camping tent? You can take a look at my introduction to tent parameters and how to choose a tent that suits you.
I. How to Choose a Park Camping Tent?
When choosing a tent, we basically need to ask ourselves these questions: Are you a beginner? Beginners are more recommended to buy quick-opening tents. Otherwise, how many people can't set them up by themselves? When to play, choose the appropriate number of people in the tent based on the number of players. The demands vary in different seasons, and the season for tents needs to be taken into account
1. Are you a beginner?
For beginners going camping, remember to buy an automatic quick-opening tent. Although it's a key point, it's very convenient. You don't have to set it up for a long time without being able to do it yourself.
2. How many people are playing?
Tents can be roughly classified by the number of users (ordinary adult size) as follows:
Single tent: Due to its relatively light weight, it is convenient to carry and store.
Double tent: It has a relatively large space. Some items and bags carried can all be placed inside the tent, and it is quite well-ventilated.
2-3 person tents: Suitable for small family camping trips. They are also very convenient to store and fold, and most of them can be directly placed in the trunk.
Multi-person tent: A tent for more than 4 people, suitable for large families.
Summary: If you are going on a camping trip, you can buy a larger tent so that the whole family can enjoy it comfortably. If you are using it for mountain hiking, a single-person tent is lighter and easier to carry.
3. When to play?
Tents are classified into two-season tents, three-season tents and four-season tents according to the seasons
Two-season tent: Also known as summer tent, it is a basic type of tent, weighing between 1.8kg and 3.6kg. It is suitable for camping in the hot summer and emphasizes lightness and breathability.
Three-season tent: Suitable for spring, summer and autumn, with a weight ranging from 2.3kg to 4.5kg, it is easy to carry and more suitable for use in high mountains with large temperature differences.
Four-season tent: A tent that can be used all year round. It has one layer of mesh for ventilation and another for warmth. Its wind resistance is average and it is a bit heavy.
Summary: Those who are not experienced backpackers will not choose the four-season tent. The three-season tent is a common type of tent used for mountain climbing. Summer tents are common camping tents in parks and have good breathability.
4. Is waterproofing needed?
Most tents are divided into inner and outer tents. The outer tent is waterproof and sun-proof, while the inner tent is well-ventilated and warm. Different needs require different materials.
Outer tent: Its main function is to protect against wind, rain and sun. There are roughly two types of materials used.
Nylon: Lightweight, specially designed for backpacking trips.
Polyester (polyester fiber) : It can effectively block ultraviolet radiation from the sun, is not easy to degrade, and is suitable for long-term camping.
D is a way to express the fineness of chemical fibers. The larger the D, the coarser the yarn, representing coarse thread. T indicates the number of yarns in a unit area of fabric. The larger the T number, the more yarn there is per unit area, which represents density. A piece of fabric must have both D and T indicators. Having only one does not indicate the quality of the fabric. Most of the market only has one D indicator. If you are not a professional mountain hiker, you don't need to worry too much. The exterior tent usually has a so-called waterproof coating because it needs to be waterproof: PU (polyurethane) : It has good waterproof performance, but the durability of commonly used waterproof coatings is not good. Generally, PU1000 to 2000 can protect against light to moderate rain, and 3000 to 4000 can protect against moderate to heavy rain!
Silicon-coated nylon: A high-end outdoor tent with excellent water resistance and sun protection, making it very suitable for use in winter. There are double-sided silicon-coated nylon and single-sided silicon-coated nylon. Double-sided is lighter, stronger and more durable than single-sided.
Coarse benzene fiber: It is lighter, more waterproof and more durable, but it is expensive, has poor environmental adaptability and poor heat resistance. It is suitable for non-winter mountain climbing and hiking.
Summary: For ordinary camping, there is no need for tents made of waterproof materials (as they are required for sleeping at night). For mountain climbing and hiking, PU materials can be used. If it is winter, waterproof fabrics coated with silicon technology are better.
Inner tent: Its main functions are heat preservation, ventilation and mosquito prevention. Ordinary gauze is used for mosquito prevention. It has a good mosquito-proof and breathable effect, and is made of high-precision polyester breathable mesh. It has a good heat preservation effect and is made of polyester taffeta (polyester filament spinning) fabric.
Summary: High-precision polyester breathable mesh is better for summer, while polyester taffeta (polyester filament) fabric is better for winter.
